DUBAI: Asiavision Movie Awards, one of the most popular Indian movie awards and the biggest outside India, will be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Nov.18.
Around 40,000 spectators are expected to enjoy the show, the 11th annual cine extravaganza held in the UAE. The show will turn to be a pan-Indian film carnival in the coming years with the inclusion of all Indian language films such as Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and other vernacular languages, Asiavision MD Nissar Syed said.
The winners of the 11th Edition of Asiavision Movie Awards were declared at a press conference held at Pearl Hotel and Apartments, Dubai on Monday. The press conference was attended by Nissar Syed and representatives from specific award sponsors.
One of the most popular stars from Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor, will be honoured in the show with the prestigious Icon of India award considering her contribution to the film industry and the Best Actress (Hindi) Award for the movie Neerja. Nivin Pauly, an actor in Malayalam films, has been selected as the Best Actor while Manju Warrier was awarded the Best Actress award for her flawless acting in the sports drama Karimkunnam 6’s.
The selection of winners was done through a public voting campaign, Nssar Syed added.
Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam, a movie on the story of a failed businessman in Dubai, was adjudged as the Best Film of the Year in Malayalam.
Kunchako Boban has been selected for another prestigious category – Man of the Year Award. South Indian sensation Tamannah Bhatia and Vijay Setupati won Best Actress and Actor Award in the Tamil category and Sreenu Ramswamy won the Best Director Award in Tamil.
Emerging star Radhika Apte will be honoured with Outstanding Performance Award.
There were other awards in all categories associated with film-making like child artist, supporting actors, best in negative roles and comedy roles and so on.
