Adieu Farooque Shaikh

farooqFarooque Shaikh who left an inedible hallmark in Indian Cinema through his portrayal of the boy next door, is no more. He died in Dubai on Friday night due to a massive heart attack while on vacation with his family. The handsome and soft spoken Farooque Shaikh endeared himself by his gentle demeanour and charismatic smile. He has acted in over 50 films with his notable performance being the Nawab in Umrao Jaan. As a young college graduate in Chashme Budoor he redefined comedy with Deepti Naval, a co-star that will miss him eternally. Very recently they both acted their age in the movie Listen Ameya.

Just two weeks ago he anchored the ‘I am Asha’ show. He stood during the whole show as a respect to Asha Bhonsle who couldn’t sit and sing. He looked at her 80+ admiringly and as he must have wondered at her energy and liveliness little did he imagine that his days were numbered.

He will be missed.
