A recent article in the Gulf News highlighted the price variances of 500ml bottle of water in Dubai. While groceries have more or less same prices, the prices in restaurants range from a Dhs 2 to Dhs 22 depending on the location and class of restaurant.
We feel that potable drinking water is the basic right of a consumer patronizing a restaurant. There must be a policy the ensures that the hotel may charge what they like for beverages but drinking water must be made available for free. This must be safe and sanitized water that is fit for human consumption. Patrons who want to order bottled water can do so at their discretion but as a policy all restaurants must offer free drinking water without any obligation to the patron.
