Rajinikanth mania is at boiling point in South India, and such is the actor’s power, some companies there have chosen to shut for a day rather than face mass bunking by employees.
Many people in Chennai, Bengaluru and Coimbatore have a day off on Friday, when Rajinikanth’s action drama Kabali releases in cinemas.
The UAE isn’t insulated from the fan frenzy. While the craze isn’t as intense in this region, local fans’ devotion to the superstar is as real.
“I have booked Kabali tickets for Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows. If I like the film, I will book three more shows. I can never get enough of his charm and charisma,” Mohammad Shaali, a businessman in Dubai, told tabloid!. In 2014, he travelled to Chennai from the UAE to watch the first day, first show of Lingaa.
