The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the official sponsor of the White Jersey in Dubai Tour 2017, has revealed a plan for managing the traffic movement of Dubai Tour 2017.
The fourth edition of the event, which kicks off on the morning of Tuesday and continues through Saturday (February 4), has attracted 16 teams competing in five stages over a combined distance of 865km. The Tour starts from Dubai and runs across six emirates of the UAE.
Maitha bin Adai, CEO of the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency cum Chairperson of the team managing traffic movement and operational plans during annual events, said: “The RTA is committed to the success of this mega event. It, therefore, coordinates with a number of public and private organisations including the Dubai Police, the UAE Cycling Federation and the Dubai Sports Council, to ensure a safe passage of the participants through the operational team at site.
“Necessary arrangements are in place to manage the traffic movement in coordination with Tour organisers. The Tour will not last more than 10 minutes on every part of the impacted streets, following which the traffic will be restored back to normal. The main signalised junctions will be programmed according to the planned stages and announced timings.”
Maitha reiterated the RTA’s keenness to ease the traffic flow in streets through which the Tour passes in all five stages right from the starting point of the First Stage at Dubai International Marine Club at King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street to Palm Jumeirah and up to the Fifth Stage heading to the Finish Point at City Walk. Dubai Tour has become one of the prominent sports events added to the galaxy of mega events in the sports map of Dubai, she noted.
She urged road users to cooperate with the bodies concerned to ensure the success of the event by adhering to the traffic instructions and directional signage set for streamlining the traffic movement in the said locations in Dubai over the five days of the Dubai Tour. Such compliance is vital for the safety of road users and realising RTA’s vision of Safe and Smooth Transport for All, concluded Maitha.
