Shah Rukh donates leather jacket for auction at Rashid Centre event

A group of students with special needs from the Rashid Centre for the Disabled and officials have returned from New Delhi, India to attend a number of activities including a humanitarian and charity event and imprint a unique impression on many faces.

The visit was part of the cooperation between the Rashid Centre and the Sun Foundation, which runs one of the most important humanitarian institutions in India for the rehabilitation of visually impaired and differently-abled people and other works. The delegation was led by Ahmed Hashim Khoury, Founder of Rashid Centre, Maryam Othman, CEO of the Centre; Sheikha Fatima Bint Hashar Bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum; artists Fayez Al Saeed and Abdulla Belkhair, Jane Omran, media personality and Bassam Al Turk, prominent director while among those who attended the charity event in New Delhi were Raveena Tandon, Bollywood star, a number of ambassadors and consuls of Arab countries based in the Indian capital.

Vikramajit Singh Sahney, founder of the Sun Foundation and officials of the foundation, were in attendance.

During the three-day visit, students participated in the humanitarian charity event in support of the UAE Embassy in New Delhi. Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Banna is the UAE ambassador to India. Students demonstrated their hand-made products produced in the training and rehabilitation departments of the Rashid Centre and the Indian centres.

The Rashid Stars band presented a drama in front of the audience and showcased UAE-inspired paintings and other artworks. The group also performed Bollywood songs and won the heart of their fellow students from the Sun Foundation.

During the ceremony, a charity auction was held on a collection of pieces donated by famous Bollywood celebrities, including a black leather jacket donated by Shah Rukh Khan, and a number of paintings by students of the centre.

Sheikha Fatima bought one of the plastic paintings in support of the charity auction. A number of luxury items went under the hammer, including an air ticket from Emirates and a night’s stay at the Mina Al Salam Hotel in Dubai.

The concert was also attended by Fayez Al-Saeed and artist Abdullah Al-Bakhir.
