The International Woolmark Prize, has announced that the 2017/18 regional finals will be held in Dubai for the second time, this July.
Originally launched in 1953 to support the wool industry, the Woolmark Prize has grown into one of fashions most prestigious competitions, and is credited with launching the careers of both Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent. The Woolmark is regarded as an incubator for emerging new talent. In 2015, the regional womenswear prize was awarded to Dubai-based label Taller Malmo.
Encompassing the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, the regional prize hopefuls this years in the menswear section are: Antar-Agni, Dhruv Kapoor and Theorem from India; Varoin Marwah from the UAE; and Ziggi Menswear from Pakistan.
Womenswear category hopefuls are: Péro, Bodice and Hemang Agrawal from India; Matar from Bahrain; Khadija Rahman and Zonia Anwaar from Pakistan; and Nour Najem and Timi Hayek from Lebanon.
