UAE diplomat held in New Delhi on charges of smuggling gold

gold-barsAbdullah bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said an Emirati diplomat was detained on Monday evening at the New Delhi Airport by the Indian customs for 12 hours on charges of smuggling gold in violation of the Indian systems.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the diplomat to interrogate the charges against him.

The Foreign Ministry official stressed that the ministry and the diplomats are committed to observe the diplomatic norms and laws of the countries where they work.
